PATRIOT LEAGUE RELEASE

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the second-consecutive year, Lehigh starting setter Megan Polak has been named to the Patriot League Academic All-League Team as the league announced its academic awards Thursday afternoon. Also on Thursday, Polak was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 Team. To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Patriot League awards, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor. To be eligible for the CoSIDA academic awards, a player must have a 3.30 GPA and played in 50 percent of the team's matches on the season.

Seven players were named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, led by two-time defending Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Patricia Mattingly of Navy. American and Colgate each placed two student-athletes on the team, including 2017 Player of the Year, Aleksandra Kazala of American.

Polak is the first Mountain Hawk selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team since Kim Freedman in 1998. This is the first selection for Polak in her career. She was joined by Navy's Mattingly as two represented the Patriot League on the all-district team.

Polak has fully embodied the title of student-athlete with a stellar 3.92 GPA as three-year letter winner and two-year starter. She has qualified for the Dean's List (min. 3.6 GPA) all four semesters during her career, including a 4.0 term. She is now a two-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree and also is a two-time selection to the Patriot League Honor Roll.

The Ohio native has led Lehigh in assists and service aces in each of the last two seasons. This season, she ranks third in Patriot League in assists (397), assists per set (8.92) and service aces (30) in 105 sets played. The junior has a career-high 93 kills this season while hitting a stellar .350. She also has a career-high 28 total blocks this year.

Polak and her All-Patriot League teammates, Ana Spangenberg and Lauren Bright, will lead Lehigh in a Patriot League semifinal matchup at American Saturday at 2 p.m.
