BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Strong in the classroom and on the field, sophomore Amanda Boyer of Lehigh field hockey has been named to the 11-member Academic All-Patriot League team, as announced on Wednesday. Boyer holds a perfect 4.0 GPA in Molecular Biology while playing in all 18 games in the midfield (with 17 starts), scoring a goal and contributing to a strong Lehigh defense.

To be eligible for the Academic All-Patriot League team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.

Academically, Boyer recorded perfect 4.0 GPAs in each of her first two semesters at Lehigh, earning a spot on the Dean's List and being named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll as well. Boyer also garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award and was named an NFHCA Scholar of Distinction for a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or higher.

On the field, Boyer scored a goal against Ball State while contributing to the Mountain Hawks' defense, which posted three shutouts and allowed a goal or fewer in six contests. Lehigh finished with three 1-0 wins on the year, the Mountain Hawks' most 1-0 victories since 2000. For her career, Boyer owns two goals and an assist after also playing in all 17 games as a freshman, with nine starts.

The Mountain Hawks finished 2017 with a 5-13 record, 2-4 in Patriot League play. Lehigh tied Lafayette for fifth place, but finished ahead of the Leopards due to tiebreaker, the first time Lehigh finished ahead of Lafayette since 2007. The Mountain Hawks earned shutout victories over LIU Brooklyn (1-0), Lafayette (1-0) and Colgate (1-0) while also defeating Siena (4-1) and Georgetown (3-2). Lehigh had five Patriot League weekly awards on the season, the program's most since 2011 and the first time in program history it has won each of the four awards at least once (Offensive Player, Defensive Player, Goalkeeper and Rookie).
