LEWISBURG, Pa. – Lehigh freshman Courtney Patterson set a school record in the 1000 yard freestyle and won two individual events to lead the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team in its meet at Bucknell Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks swam fast against the perennial league power but came up on the short end of a 184-102 score at Kinney Natatorium.
The loss drops the Mountain Hawks to 1-4 in dual meets this season.
Competing in the same pool that will host the Patriot League Championships next month, Patterson finished second overall in the 1000 free with a time of 10:20.26 breaking the school record of 10:21.66 set by Lauren Ayres in 2002. While Patterson did not win that event, she did post two of Lehigh's three event wins in the first 14 women's events. Patterson won the 200 yard butterfly in 2:08.68 also captured the 500 free in 5:07.40.
Another freshman, Carolyn Koch, delivered Lehigh's other event win taking the 50 yard freestyle in 24.60 seconds. Koch also finished second in the 200 free and fourth in the 100 free.
Among other top performers for Lehigh, sophomore Alissa Leung finished third in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke events, while senior Emily DiDonato finished second in the 100 yard breaststroke, one spot ahead of freshman Rebekah Campo, and fourth in the 200, right behind sophomore Kimberly Weyand.
The Bison clinched the meet early and swam unscored in the final two events.
The Mountain Hawks will host Princeton in a scrimmage Sunday at 1 p.m. at Jacobs Pool before wrapping up the regular season next weekend when half the team will return to Lewisburg for the Bucknell Invitational, while the other half will host Drexel at 1 p.m. Saturday.
