Lehigh looks to continue roll vs. Arcadia Monday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Coming off a thrilling win over Wagner Saturday, the Lehigh men's basketball team will play its final game before finals on Monday when it welcomes Arcadia to Stabler Arena. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are looking for their ninth win in the last 10 games heading into a 10-day layoff before their next contest at Michigan State on Dec. 22.
Lehigh was down 11 to Wagner Saturday when junior Gabe Knutson was knocked out of the game after he took an elbow to the face. The Mountain Hawks responded with a vengeance, immediately going on a 14-0 run to take a three-point advantage. Lehigh then trailed by four with just 22 seconds remaining, but a pair of threes by sophomores Mackey McKnight and Anthony D'Orazio - gave the Mountain Hawks a thrilling 70-69 win, their first single-digit victory of the season. D'Orazio's trey came with eight seconds remaining to give Lehigh its first closing-seconds win since Knutson's putback gave the Mountain Hawks a one-point victory over Lafayette last February.
Junior C.J. McCollum excelled with a game-high 22 points, six rebounds and five assists. In the process, he moved into eighth in Lehigh history with 1,527 career points, jumping over former teammate Marquis Hall and former coach Matt Logie. McCollum also moved to 20th in Patriot League history for career points.
The win was Lehigh's fifth straight over an NEC squad, four coming this season. The Mountain Hawks still face Bryant from that conference on Dec. 31. A win on Monday would give the Mountain Hawks their ninth nonleague win of the season, equaling the total they had each of the past two seasons. Lehigh's most successful nonleague campaign was 2008-09 when it was 10-5 heading into Patriot League play.
A win would give the Mountain Hawks their ninth win in their last 10 games. It would mark the first time Lehigh would win nine times in a 10-game stretch since the 2005-06 season when it won 13-of-14. Lehigh would improve to 3-0 on the season, which would mark the Mountain Hawks' fifth straight home win dating back to last season.
Arcadia owns a 5-3 record, winners of four of its last five entering Monday. Out of the Middle Atlantic Conference, the Knights are coming off a 94-74 win over Penn State Abington on Saturday. Four Arcadia players are averaging double figures, led by Khalief Trawick (14.4 points per game) followed by Colin McCarthy (11.9), Joe Brown (11.4) and Aaron Lee-Webb (10.4). Brown and McCarthy are strong rebounders as well, averaging 6.7 and 6.1 boards, respectively.
Monday will mark the first-ever meeting between Lehigh and Arcadia.
The Mountain Hawks will return to game action on Thursday, Dec. 22 when they travel to Michigan State to face the Spartans. That game will tip at 9 p.m. on ESPNU. Lehigh won't return home until Jan. 3 against University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Tickets for all home games are now on sale and may be purchased on Lehighsports.com or by calling the ticket office at (610) 7LU-GAME.
