BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team battled Big East foe Villanova in each set, but fell short on Tuesday night by a score of 3-0 at Leeman-Turner Arena. Freshman Courtney McCutchan notched a double-double with 10 kills and 12 digs and led the team with a .474 hitting percentage. The defeat drops the Mountain Hawks to 3-5 on the season.

Villanova (5-3) prevailed in a tightly-contested first set by a 27-25 count, before winning the second set, 25-20, and the third set, 27-25. Lehigh outhit Villanova in the final set and held a lead of 19-14, but could not finish off a resilient Wildcats team.

"I thought a lot of things went right for us tonight," Lehigh head coach Jenny Maurer said. "They are a good team from the Big East, they were fast and they were good defensively."

Junior Angelika Kopacz once again reached double-figures in kills, posting 10 in the match. Junior Jessica Kudirka led the way with 17 assists and freshman Rachel Charles registered a team-high 14 digs. Sophomore Taylor Poole added five blocks and junior Chelsea Sheridan posted an impressive .417 hitting percentage along with six kills.

Morgan Petkovich led the Wildcats with 12 kills, while Alyssa Anderson provided 24 assists.

"We had some key errors at key times," Maurer added. "We have to be tougher in practice so come conference time, we won't be unaware."

The Brown and White will head back on the road this weekend to Harrisonburg, Va. for the James Madison Invitational. Lehigh will face Delaware State on Friday at 5 p.m., before taking on Loyola (Md.) and James Madison on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.

Check back on Wednesday for the video post-game wrapup with coach Maurer.
