Lehigh downed by Bucknell in straight sets

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team fell in straight sets to Bucknell on Saturday at Leeman-Turner Arena. The Bison prevailed in the first set, 25-21, before taking the second set, 25-20, and the third set, 25-22. Junior Chelsea Sheridan led the Brown and White with eight kills and freshman Rachel Charles recorded 12 digs. Lehigh falls to 7-9 overall and 1-3 in Patriot League play.
"When you play flat, it's hard to get any synchronization or flow," Lehigh head coach Jenny Maurer explained. "It really started with our serving and receiving, that affects everything. This was also one of our worst passing performances."
Junior Jessica Kudirka fell two digs shy of a double-double, posting eight digs to go along with 15 assists. Freshman Dana Raber notched 11 assists and freshman Courtney McCutchan added seven kills and 11 digs. Junior Brittany Reichwein led the way with two block assists in addition to three kills and three digs.
"We don't want to make any excuses," Maurer added. "Winners find a way."
Katie Baumgarten led the match with 10 kills for Bucknell to go along with 14 digs. Rachel Rodriguez chipped in 17 assists and Heidi Kamp notched four blocks for the Bison, who improved to 5-11 overall and 3-1 in league play.
Bucknell hit .215 for the match, while Lehigh produced a .062 clip. The Bison also out-assisted Lehigh by a 34-31 margin.
The Mountain Hawks will try to get back on the winning path next Thursday, October 7 against rival Lafayette. The match is set for 7 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
