BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh volleyball team earned a season sweep of Holy Cross on Friday night, taking care of the Crusaders by a 3-0 score at Leeman-Turner Arena. The Mountain Hawks hit .236 for the match and received a double-double performance (12 kills and 13 digs) from junior Angelika Kopacz. Lehigh improves to 10-10 overall and 4-4 in Patriot League play.

“We were very aggressive behind the service line tonight,” Lehigh head coach Jenny Maurer said. “Each year, Holy Cross has more offensive weapons, so we knew we had to take them out of their system. We've been focusing on being crisp, and it's nice to see us finish a match in three sets.”

Sophomore Taylor Poole put forth another impressive outing with 10 kills, five digs and a .562 hitting percentage. Freshman Courtney McCutchan fell two kills shy of a double-double with eight kills and 13 digs, while junior Jessica Kudirka posted 25 assists to go along with eight digs. Juniors Brittany Reichwein and Chelsea Sheridan combined for 12 kills and freshmen Rachel Charles and Dana Raber each served up three aces.

“We transitioned very fast offensively,” Maurer added. “We definitely want to utilize this momentum as a confidence builder going forward.”

The Mountain Hawks never trailed in either of the first two sets, which they won by identical 25-16 scores. Holy Cross briefly led in the third set, before Lehigh took over and never looked back in a 25-20 victory.

Megan Lynch led Holy Cross (10-17, 2-6) with seven kills and 12 digs. Chelsey O'Donnell posted 20 assists and Angela Chisholm registered a match-high 15 digs.

The Mountain Hawks have now swept Holy Cross in each of the last three seasons, winning four of the six matches by 3-0 counts. The three-set win was Lehigh's second of the season as the team also edged Loyola (Md.) by a 3-0 score on September 11 at the JMU Tournament.

Lehigh will try to ride the momentum from Friday's victory into Saturday when it welcomes Army to Leeman-Turner Arena at 4 p.m. The Black Knights downed the Mountain Hawks, 3-1, in West Point, N.Y. on September 24. Live stats will be available at gametime.
