BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The two hottest teams in the Patriot League, who also happen to be archrivals, meet on Saturday evening at Stabler Arena as Lehigh welcomes Lafayette to town in a highly anticipated early season showdown. The Mountain Hawks won their sixth straight home game on Wednesday by downing Colgate 74-60 as freshman standout C.J. McCollum led four Lehigh players in double figures with 29 points. Lehigh scored 44 second half points and limited the Raiders to 35% overall shooting in the win as the Brown and White remained one game behind Lafayette in the league standings. The Leopards enter this weekend on a roll, having won their last six, including a hard-fought 61-57 victory over Bucknell on Wednesday in Easton.
In the last two games Lehigh has done a nice job of closing out its opponents, outscoring them a combined 84 to 65 in the second half. The Mountain Hawks have shot 50% from the floor during that time (21-42) and held the opposition to a 22-of-66 showing (33%). Lehigh has also sunk 36-of-43 shots at the foul line, good for 83.4%.
During Patriot League play Lehigh’s big three of Marquis Hall, Zahir Carrington and C.J. McCollum has been nearly unstoppable. The three Mountain Hawks are averaging 48.1 points, 17.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists while shooting a combined 48% from the floor and 70% from the free throw line. No other trio of teammates is averaging more points than Lehigh’s big three during league play.
Saturday’s game is scheduled to begin at 7:05 from Stabler Arena. Saturday is Kids Night and fans are encouraged to wear brown to the game. Tickets for the contest are available by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by logging onto Lehighsports.com or at the arena box office prior to tip-off.
