LEWISBURG, Pa. – After a tough 3-0 loss Friday night to Colgate the Lehigh volleyball couldn’t rebound as it fell 3-0 to Bucknell Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Hawks first Patriot League road trip didn’t go as planned as the team is now below .500 in league play with a 3-4 record. Overall on the season Lehigh falls to 10-12.

“We expected them to be very competitive today,” head coach Jenny Maurer said. “We wanted to bounce back and we did that. We had some bright spots and we competed, but it was not enough to overcome Bucknell.”

The Bison would go ahead 5-4 in the first set and never squandered the lead as they won the set 25-21.

Bucknell started the second set off very strong building an 8-2 lead and they never looked back taking the set 25-18.

Lehigh did not give up in the third set as it started off by building a 7-2 lead. The Bison would rally and the score was tied late at 19 apiece. Bucknell was able to get the lead to secure the victory with a 25-21 win.

“We made a big push in the third set, but when you’re behind 2-0 it is a lot of work to come back,” Maurer said. “We made some errors and gave them the momentum. We just have to be smarter on the court.”

Senior captain Mo McReynolds had a team-high 12 kills and finished with a .308 hitting percentage. Sophomore Emily Flanagan continued with her strong play this season as she finished with five kills and a .385 hitting percentage.

“Emily is establishing herself as one of our better blockers and she deserves it,” Maurer said. “She has shown that she can be an offensive weapon and it is a credit to her hard work.”

The Mountain Hawks, now at the halfway point of league play, have to regroup and get ready to make a final push towards the postseason.

“Young teams have ups and downs,” Maurer said. “This weekend gives us something to build on. We have a lot of time left and we're not ready to throw it in. We have to step up our game.”

Lehigh will be back on the road next weekend as they try to improve to 2-0 against both Navy and American. The Mountain Hawks will kick things off against the Eagles at 7 p.m. next Friday.
