BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks won their fourth game in a row and second straight league game, with a 55-53 win over Navy Wednesday night at Stabler Arena.  Erica Prosser tied her career high with 19 points to lead the Brown and White to victory.  Melissa Rich added 13 points and seven rebounds for Lehigh, who is now 10-7 (2-0) on the year.  Cassie Consedine had 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and four blocks in the losing effort for Navy.  The Midshipmen fall to 4-13 and 0-2 in the Patriot League.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s two points or 15 points, a wins a win in the Patriot League,” said head coach Sue Troyan.  “Erica [Prosser] played great tonight.  She continues to make big shots and big lay-ups at key times.”

The first half was a back and forth battle, with Lehigh taking a 28-26 lead into the break, thanks in part to a great play by Pearce.  The Mountain Hawks had the last possession of the half after Bowen hit a jumper with 23 seconds left to tie the game at 26-26.  Erica Prosser brought the ball up the court and took a jumper at the top of the key.  The shot rimmed out but Pearce was able to find the ball in mid-air and tap in back as time expired to give the Brown and White the lead.

Late in the second half, Lehigh took a 52-49 lead with 2:22 remaining, on a Rich lay-up.  The Midshipmen cut the lead down to one point when Consedine hit both of her free throws, following a foul by Rich.

Following the free throws, both teams missed a pair of lay-ups, and Lehigh gained possession with just 1:30 to play.  Coming out off a timeout, Prosser launched up a three and nailed it at the 1:12 mark to give Lehigh a four point lead.  Once again the Midshipmen answered back with a lay-up by Angela Myers to cut the deficit to 55-53 with 44 seconds remaining.

On the Mountain Hawks next possession, Prosser missed a lay-up, which appeared to hit the rim, but the shot clock did not reset and Navy was given another chance with 15 seconds on the clock.

Whitney Davidson’s three-point attempt was off the mark, but Kristin Bowen grabbed the offensive rebound and was fouled by Haly Crites, sending her to the line with two seconds remaining.  Bowen missed both of her free throw attempts and Kaela Pearce grabbed the ensuing rebound to put an end to the game.

Haly Crites had three blocks for the third time this season and added seven points and three rebounds.  Prosser had five rebounds, two assists and one steal to go with her 19 points.

The two missed free throws at the end of the game by Bowen were the first of the game for Navy, who shot 10-of-12 from the line on the night.  Morgan Hill contributed with 12 points and three rebounds.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Army at 7 p.m.  The game can be seen live on Service Electric 2 Sports, as well as 91.3 WLVR-FM and Lehighsports.com.
