Lehigh shot 36 percent from the field for the day, while Holy Cross connected on 39 percent of its field goals. Sophomore Phil Anderson and freshman Zahir Carrington added 12 and 11 points, respectively for Lehigh, while senior Kyle Neptune and junior Bryan White each pulled down four boards. Holy Cross was led on offense by senior Torey Thomas with 21 points, while Keith Simmons and Alex Vander Baan each scored 14. Simmons also pulled down ten boards to record the double-double, while Vander Baan ripped down eight rebounds.
Behind 11 first-half points from Olivero, Lehigh took a 32-30 lead into the halftime break. The Mountain Hawks shot 41 percent in the opening 20 minutes and received a boost off of the bench from Carrington with nine points and three boards. Neptune and Bryan White also pulled down three rebounds for the Brown and White and Lehigh committed only three turnovers in the half.
Thomas led the Cruaders with 12 points on four-of-eight shooting, while Alex Vander Baan added nine tallies. Holy Cross out rebounded the Mountain Hawks 20-17, led by senior Keith Simmons’ six boards, while Thomas handed out a team-high two assists. The Crusaders sank only 35 percent of their field goals, but hit 10-of-12 free throws and turned the ball over just five times.
Two consecutive jumpers from freshman Marquis Hall and senior Jason Mgebroff pushed Lehigh’s led to 36-30 with 18:44 remaining, but from there the Lehigh offense went ice cold, and would not score for the next 12:47 when Phil Anderson hit a lay up. That brought Lehigh to within ten at 48-38, but Holy Cross would not let the Mountain Hawks get any closer and hung on for the victory.
