Lehigh shutout by American at home

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks fell to first place American in three games Friday night in Taylor Gym.  The game scores were 30-16, 30-19 and 30-28.  Brittany Thurston led Lehigh on offense recording 12 kills and seven digs, while Rubena Sukaj had a match high 18 kills for the Eagles.  The Brown and White fall to 5-21 (2-11) while the Eagles improve to 23-7 (12-1).

 

American stormed out of the gate, with convincing wins in the first two games.  Chelsa Brooks converted on four of five kill attempts in the first game to lead the Eagles.  American was also able to take advantage of seven Lehigh errors in the first game.

 

In the second game, the Eagles converted on 17 of their 27 kill attempts with no errors, for an attack percentage of .630.  Sukaj added seven kills in the game, while Thurston led the Mountain Hawks with five kills.

 

Lehigh was able to stick with the Eagles in the final game, before American was able to pull away at the end, winning 30-28.  Sukaj added eight more kills in the final game, while Dannielle Pimental had three blocks for Lehigh.

 

The Mountain Hawks return to action tomorrow at 4 p.m. for their final match of the year, when the Navy Midshipmen come to Taylor Gym.
