Lehigh gets second straight 3-1 defeat

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In their second match of the weekend, the Mountain Hawks fell to the Colgate Raiders at the Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall on Saturday afternoon.  For the second time of the weekend, the Mountain Hawks were defeated 3-1.  Game scores were 30-19, 31-29, 27-30 and 30-28.  With the loss, Lehigh falls to 0-17 on the season and 0-4 in the Patriot League.  Colgate improves to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in league play.

 

Pacing the Mountain Hawks were senior Michelle Schwendenmann and freshman Sarah Wolfe.  Schwendenmann recorded her fourth-consecutive double-double, having a match high 25 kills and a team high 13 digs.  The Cincinnati, Ohio native currently has a double-double in each of the Mountain Hawks’ league games and a total of five double-doubles for the season.  Additionally, Schwendenmann had a team best .304 hitting percentage.  Wolfe helped the team offensively and defensively as she recorded 49 assists and 12 digs.

 

Meghan Fanta paced the Raiders’ offense, recording 57 assists.  The Raiders had three players record double-digit kill numbers—Kelsea Loveless (20), Ilona Matulaitis (18) and Katrina Zawojski (14).  Jackie Adlam anchored the defense, recording 25 kills.

 

The Mountain Hawks will return to Leeman-Turner Arena on Friday night when they welcome rival Lafayette.  Match time is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
