BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior Sara Ellis scored 24 points and senior Jenny Callan added 20 in her final home game as Lehigh rolled past archrival Lafayette 79-50 on Senior Night at Stabler Arena. The Mountain Hawks continued to shoot the ball well, connecting on 44 percent of their shots and a stifling LU defense forced 21 turnovers and converted them into 23 points. Lehigh picks up its second straight win and improves to 9-16 on the year and 4-8 in the Patriot League. Lafayette drops to 7-18, 2-10 in league contests.

Ellis got the Mountain Hawks off to a fast start, scoring Lehigh’s first eight points on a jumper and two-three pointers to become the 12th Lehigh player to reach 1,000 points for her career. Lafayette hung tough early in the first half, but the Mountain Hawks were able to gradually build a lead, which grew to as many as 16 with five minutes to play in the half.

Lehigh went into halftime leading 40-26, thanks in part to Ellis, who finished the half with 19 points including four three-pointers. Callan added nine points and six boards in the opening 20 minutes.

The Mountain Hawks stayed on the offensive in the second half, extending their lead thanks in part to Callan, who added 11 more points in the second half to finish with 20 points and 12 rebounds, her 16th double-double of the season and the 21st of her career.

“Jenny has had a great career and it meant so much to the team to get her a win in her final home game,” said Ellis. “We came out determined to play hard for her and she was determined to go out with a win.”

Junior Adrienne Blount was the third Mountain Hawk to crack double figures, adding 11 points. Sophomore point guard Claire Sullivan added eight points, four rebounds, six assists and four steals for the Brown and White.

Kara Stetler led Lafayette with 11 points. The Leopards shot just 31 percent from the field on the night.

Lehigh will return to the court on Tuesday night as the Mountain Hawks travel to Lewisburg to take on Bucknell. Game time is set for 7:00 for Sojka Pavilion. The game will be broadcast on 91.3 FM WLVR as well as online at Lehighsports.com with streaming powered by Yahoo! Sports. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:45 pm.
