WEST POINT, N.Y. – Behind a stellar defensive effort Lehigh downed Army 69-44 on Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena to move to the Mountain Hawks to 9-1 in Patriot League play for the first-time ever, and improve their record to 16-9 overall.  Senior Joe Knight scored a game-high 16 points, including four three-pointers as the Brown and White won its eighth straight game against the Black Knights who fall to 5-18 on the season and 1-10 in league action.

For the game Lehigh shot 48 percent from the field, including a 50 percent showing in the second half and held the Black Knights to just 30 percent from the field.  The Mountain Hawks were dominant on the glass, pulling down 43 boards to Army’s 25, and outscored their counterparts 30-6 in the paint.  Jose Olivero and Bryan White both added nine tallies for the winners, while Kyle Neptune and Mike Fischman both tossed in eight.

Army was led on offense by Jarrell Brown’s 14 points, while John Moonshower scored nine.  Lehigh turned the ball over 13 times and forced 14.

Lehigh raced out to a 33-13 halftime lead as a number of players made contributions.  The Mountain Hawks were led on offense by Knight’s 11 points, including three shots from beyond the arc, while sophomore White added nine first half tallies.  Mitch Gilfillan dished out four assists and as a team, Lehigh out rebounded the Black Knights 21-14 in the first 20 minutes, while shooting 46 percent from the field.

Army was held to just 20 percent from the field, although Brown did hit two of his three field goals en route to six points.  No other Black Knight scored more than two points in the half, with a quartet of Army players pulling down two boards.

In the second half, Lehigh pushed its lead to 24 at 41-17 when James Anderson put in a bucket, but Army was able to cut it to 19 with 13:15 to go on a pair of free throws by Kenny Brewer.  A set of free throws from Neptune, a jumper by Olivero and back-to-back lay ups from Knight and Jason Mgebroff upped the lead to 29 with 8:40 to go.

Head Coach Billy Taylor was able to empty the bench, with every player seeing time, and each Mountain Hawk pulling down at least one rebound.

Lehigh returns to action on Wednesday evening when the Mountain Hawks play host to Colgate at Stabler Arena.  Tip-off is set for 7:35 and tickets can be purchased by calling 610-7LU-GAME, by visiting the Lehigh Athletics Ticket Office in Grace Hall during normal business hours, or by logging onto lehighsports.com at anytime.
