HAMILTON, N.Y. – Lehigh senior captain Joe Knight drained eight consecutive free throws down the stretch, while finishing with 14 points, as the Mountain Hawks topped host Colgate by a 53-45 score at Cotterell Court on Wednesday night.  The victory, Lehigh’s sixth in a row, keeps the Mountain Hawks tied atop the Patriot League standings with Bucknell at 4-0 in league play.

The win improves Lehigh to 11-8 on the season, while snapping an eleven-game losing streak for LU in Hamilton.

Defense was the order of the night, as the Mountain Hawks limited the Raiders to just 36% shooting for the game, and 2-of-18 from beyond the three-point arc.  Colgate (7-11 overall, 1-3 Patriot League) also committed 18 turnovers.

Kyle Neptune did a great job defensively, holding [Kyle] Roemer in check” Knight said after the win.  “We just take pride in our defense, and it was a total team effort.”

Roemer finished just 2-of-12 from the floor, scoring only four points.

Knight led Lehigh with 14, while junior Jose Olivero chipped in with 13 points in the victory.  The Mountain Hawks were also bolstered by 17 points from their bench in the win.

Lehigh’s current five-game winning streak is the longest by a Billy Taylor-coached team since LU won seven straight in his first season in Bethlehem.

Lehigh will return to action on Saturday, as the Mountain Hawks visit rival Lafayette in the 203rd meeting between the two teams.  Game time is set for 1:00 pm from Kirby Sports Center in Easton, with radio coverage on ESPN Radio 1230 and 1320 getting underway at 12:30 pm.
