“We didn’t come with the effort and intensity we needed to for the entire 40 minutes,” said Lehigh head coach Billy Taylor after the win. “We played well in spurts, but without a complete effort, Army is tough to beat, as they showed tonight. I was very pleased with energy shown by Brian White tonight. That’s what he’s been showing us lately in practice, and it translated to tonight’s game.”
In what figured to be a defensive struggle coming in, the first half began that way. Lehigh built a 25-24 lead at the half, as both teams struggled to get shots off.
In the second half, however, the Mountain Hawks took advantage of every opportunity, and Lehigh began to sizzle from the floor. As a team, Lehigh shot 70% in the second stanza en route to the win.
Junior Joe Knight led all Lehigh scorers with 20 points on the night. Sophomore center Jason Mgebroff added 14 points for the Mountain Hawks, who finished the game with a 56% field goal clip – their best shooting percentage of the season.
Forward Cory Sinning led Army’s efforts with 20 points.
“Every game is a championship game, and we can’t lose focus at any time,”
