Lehigh begins road swing at Cornell on Sunday afternoon

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh heads to Ithaca Sunday afternoon for the first of a two-game road swing, as the Mountain Hawks take on the Big Red of Cornell.  Lehigh, which is seeking its first road victory of the season, has not won a true road game since defeating Army in West Point on February 11, and the Brown and White hasn’t won at Cornell since way back on March 4, 1910.  On Tuesday evening, the Mountain Hawks downed Eastern 67-48, while Cornell fell to Quinnipiac on Friday 55-45 at home.  Under head coach Billy Taylor, Lehigh is 7-6 all-time against Ivy League teams, but has not defeated a squad from the Ancient Eight since downing Dartmouth last season on November 27 at home.

With the win over Eastern on Tuesday evening, Billy Taylor has now moved into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time victories leaderboard in school history.  He edged ahead of Roy Heckman who won 52 games from 1967-72 on South Mountain.  Taylor is now 14 victories away from tying J.W. Pollard, the first coach in Lehigh history, for fifth place on the list.

Sunday marks Lehigh’s sixth game on the road against an Ivy League team under head coach Billy Taylor.  The Mountain Hawks are 2-3 in the previous five, with some exciting finishes along the way.  On December 8, 2003, Jose Olivero hit a game-winning three-pointer with four seconds remaining to lift Lehigh to a 60-57 victory at Columbia.  Later that season, Olivero sunk two free throws with eight ticks left to preserve another 60-57 victory, this time at Dartmouth, which took place on December 20, 2003.

Sunday’s game is expected to tip-off at 1:00 from Newman Arena in Ithaca.  All of the action will be broadcast live in the Lehigh Valley on WLVR-FM and also around the world on lehighsports.com with streaming provided by Yahoo! Sports.  Veteran Matt Kerr will handle the commentary.
