Army rolls past Mountain Hawks in three games

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Lehigh suffered its second consecutive loss on Saturday afternoon, as the Mountain Hawks were swept by Army 3-0  at Gillis Field House. The Black Knights are one of the top teams in the Patriot League and showed why on Saturday, sweeping all three-games by identical 30-21 scores as they drop Lehigh’s record to 5-17, 0-9 in the Patriot League. Army improves to 17-3, 8-1 in league matches.

 

The Mountain Hawks cut down substantially on the service errors that plagued them Friday evening against Holy Cross, but only hit .093 for the match, while allowing the Black Knights to attack at a .250 clip. Michelle Schwendenmann led all players with 12 kills and she also led Lehigh with a .233 hitting percentage. Seniors Morgan Volkart and Nikky Barnes added eight and seven kills respectively.

 

Defensively, Cassidy Maumus tallied 13 digs for the Brown and White, while Kat Lafferty added 11 digs to go with 13 assists. Liz McGehee also chipped in with 14 assists for the Mountain Hawks.

 

Briana Stremick was the only Black Knight to record double figure kills with 11.

 

The Mountain Hawks return home on Tuesday night to open up a six-match homestand against La Salle. Tuesday’s match gets underway at 7:00 and will be broadcast online at lehighsports.com with streaming audio and video provided by Yahoo! Sports.
