Streak ends as Bucknell downs Lehigh

Lewisburg, PA – Lehigh had its three-game Patriot League winning streak snapped as Bucknell downed the Mountain Hawks 71-63 at Davis Gym on Saturday afternoon. The win gives the Bison sole possession of first place in the Patriot League, leaving the Mountain Hawks one game behind. Bucknell is now 12-7 on the season and 5-1 in the league; the loss drops the Mountain Hawks to 8-11 overall and 4-2 in league play. Bucknell came out strong early, using an up-tempo style to grab a 16-7 lead. Lehigh then went on a 10-0 run, to take its first lead at 17-16. The Bison used an 8-0 run to take a 33-26 lead into halftime. The Bison again put the pressure on in the second half, and ran out to a 47-32 lead. The Mountain Hawks fought back thanks in part to four second half three pointers from Carli Toliver. The sophomore finished with a career-high 20 points for Lehigh. However, the Mountain Hawks could come no closer than four points, as the Bison went on to the eight point win. Bucknell was led by 16 points and a career-best 14 assists from Molly Creamer. Vicky Quimby was the recipient of many passes from Creamer, pouring in 27 points underneath on 12-16 shooting for the Bison. Bucknell committed 15 turnovers on the afternoon and shot 51%. Lehigh finished the afternoon with 18 turnovers, while shooting 43%. Anne Tierney was held to 2 points and 4 rebounds, marking the first Patriot League game this season where the junior was unable to record a double-double. Jana Ransom added 12 points and Cat Nicholson 11 in a losing effort for Lehigh. The Mountain Hawks return to Stabler Arena on Wednesday to host arch-rival Lafayette at 5:30.
