Hamilton, NY – Lehigh returned to action on Sunday vs. Colgate looking to hold on to a share of first place in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks were disappointed, however, falling by a score of 77-68. The loss pushes the Mountain Hawks to 13-7 overall, 5-2 in the league, while Colgate goes to 9-11 overall, 4-3 in the league. The setback is also the first time in a month that the Mountain Hawks have dropped back to back games. The score was tied 36-36 at halftime. Lehigh’s Matt Logie led his team in first-half points with seven, while Howard Blue was the top scorer for Colgate, posting 13 points. In the second half Colgate went out on a 6-0 run before a pair of free throws from Mike Cowgill ended the Lehigh scoring drought. Cowgill’s free throws narrowed the deficit to four points with 18 minutes remaining in the half. Including the Cowgill free throws, the Mountain Hawks went on a 13-4 run, giving Lehigh a 49-46 lead with 13:36 left to go. A three pointer by Colgate’s Mark Linebaugh with 12:15 on the clock tied the score at 49-49 and doused the Lehigh momentum. The Mountain Hawks would then go scoreless for more than four minutes and allow Colgate to take a 55-49 lead before Matt Logie sank a three point bucket to pull Lehigh back within three, 55-52. Lehigh regained the lead with 5:54 on the clock following a Logie runner. However, Colgate would end up being too much to handle as Lehigh fell for the second consecutive game. Statistical leaders for Lehigh included Matt Logie (18 points), Matt Crawford (eight rebounds and one block), Zlatko Savovic and Logie (two assists), and Ra Tiah (three steals). The Mountain Hawks shot 42% from the floor, 35% from three point land, and 71% from the free throw line. For Colgate, Mark Linebaugh led the way by posting 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
