Bethlehem, PA - Lehigh moved into sole possession of first place in the Patriot League with a 78-61 victory over Army at Stabler Arena. With its seventh consecutive victory, and ninth at home, Lehigh now stands at 13-5 and a perfect 5-0 in the Patriot League. Army falls to 5-12 and 0-5 in the league. Lehigh was led in scoring by senior Zlatko Savovic, as he finished with 18 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The Mountain Hawks led by as many as 19 in the first half and took a 39-23 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Senior Matt Logie and Savovic both scored nine points in the first half and freshman Chris Stephenson came off the bench to provide a huge spark as he established a new career high with eight points, including two of two from beyond the arc. As a team, Lehigh shot 55% from three-point range in the first half. Lehigh extended its lead to as many as 30 points in the second half, but Army came back and made it a 13-point contest with just over five minutes remaining. From then on it was timely shooting and stingy defense, which prevented the Black Knights from getting any closer. Several Mountain Hawks’ players established career highs on the day with Stephenson leading the charge with ten. Senior Mike Cowgill put in 15 points and sophomore Nick Monserez pulled down a team high and career best six rebounds. Lehigh shot an outstanding 58% from the field on the day, and 57% from three-point range. The leading scorer for Army was Andrew Pawling, as he put in 16 points on the afternoon, including three from behind the arc. Lehigh returns to the court on Friday, January 31, when they travel to Massachusetts to take on Holy Cross. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. and the game can be heard live online at www.lehigh.edu and on Oldies 1470, WKAP with Matt Kerr.
