Bethlehem, PA – Sophomore Mitch Gilfillan scored a career high 21 points on seven of eight shooting, all three pointers, to lead Lehigh to a huge 99-61 victory over Delaware Valley on Wednesday from Stabler Arena.  Lehigh will now take to the road for three consecutive games, with this game serving as a warmup.  With the win, Lehigh improves its record to 5-3 on the season, while the Aggies fall to 1-7.

Lehigh started slow in the first half, but picked it up towards the end and led 48-31 at the break.  Gilfillan saw his most action of the season and took advantage, connecting on four of five shots from three point range en route to 12 points in the first 20 minutes.  Senior Austen Rowland had a solid first stanza with eight points, four rebounds and three assists and freshman Jose Olivero continued his stellar play as the guard connected on two three pointers and three of four shots overall for eight points in the half.  As a team, Lehigh shot 53 percent for the half and held the Aggies to 43 percent.  Lehigh connected on 50 percent of its shots from three point range, and pulled down 24 rebounds compared to Delaware Valley’s 13.

The second half allowed head coach Billy Taylor to try some new things and get everyone minutes on the floor and that’s exactly what he did.  Junior Kevin Murawinski got some playing time and responded with four points on two of three shooting.  Sophomore Kevin Tempest also saw action for the first time in several games and he made the most of it with four points also.  Freshman Jason Mgebroff played his best game of his young career with 11 points on a perfect five of five shooting night and also pulled down three rebounds.  Sophomore Mike Fischman netted six points and ripped a game high nine boards.

Lehigh shot 49 percent for the game and hit 11 three-pointers on the night, while Delaware Valley, which was led by freshman Mike Thornton with 20 points and six rebounds, hit only 34 percent of its shots.

Lehigh returns to action on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks begin their three game road trip in New Hampshire as they take on Dartmouth.  Game time is set for 2:00 and the game can be heard live on 1470 WKAP and on the Lehigh website.
