Washington, DC – Lehigh’s season came to an end Saturday afternoon in a familiar way, as the Bucknell Bison defeated the Mountain Hawks for the third time this season in the semifinals of the Patriot League volleyball tournament. Bucknell took control early on in the first game, and held off repeated Lehigh comebacks in the third game to win 3-0. Bucknell took the first two games (30-22, 30-17) as Lehigh struggled to attack consistently. Lehigh held the lead late in the third at 27-26, but four straight Bison points ended the game with a final score of 30-27 in favor of Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks were led by freshman All-league performer Michelle Schwendenmann with 9 kills, as no Lehigh players were able to reach double figures. Katie Dukatz, Bucknell rode the strong play of their all-league performers, as Jackie Leahy led the team with 13 kills. Brandi Trapasso, the Patriot League’s all-time leader in digs, had 14 to lead the Bison. Lehigh finishes the season 18-14 overall, while Bucknell improves to 16-12. The Bison will take on top-seeded American in the Patriot League final on Sunday. It was also the final match for Lehigh’s three seniors Singleton, Kober, and Dukatz, whose names are littered all over the Lehigh record books.
