Michael P. Frick
- Induction:
- 1995
- Class:
- 1978
In the mid-1970s, Lehigh always got off to a good start at wrestling dual matches. The reason was Mike Frick, who wrestled at both 126 and 134 pounds, establishing himself as one of Lehigh’s top lightweight wrestlers.
A three-time All-American and two-time NCAA national champion, Frick finished first at nationals in 1975 and 1976 at 134 pounds.
His 1975 performance was especially impressive as he was named the meet’s outstanding wrestler. In his first NCAA tournament, he finished fourth at 126 pounds.
Frick’s success wasn't limited to just Nationals. At Eastern's, Frick finished first in 1973 at 118 pounds. He duplicated the first place finish in 1975 and 1976 and 134 pounds.
Upon his graduation from Lehigh, Frick starred internationally. In 1977, he was a member of the United States AAU team which went to Cuba and also toured Tblisi, Russia and Poland.
“Wrestling was something that I enjoyed and I appreciate Lehigh recognizing me for my efforts,” Frick said of his induction
Frick went on to work as a general contractor and stayed involved with wrestling, working with the Nazareth Midget Wrestling Program. He and his wife, Linda, have four sons, Travis, Eric, Colin and Thad.
