Lieberman, Mark T.

Mark T. Lieberman
- Induction:
- 1994
- Class:
- 1979
It didn't take long for Lehigh wrestling fans to realize how good Mark Lieberman would be. As a freshman
wrestling at 167 lbs. he won an EIWA championship, marking the first of four titles Lieberman would win, placing him in elite company. Only three other Lehigh wrestlers have ever won four Eastern titles. On a national level, he was nearly as successful, twice winning NCAA Championships at 177 lbs. He also finished second as a sophomore at 167 lbs. In all, Lieberman finished with an 85-6 record with a school benchmark 43 falls.
Lieberman’s list of accomplishments also include U.S. Wrestling Federation National Champion in 1978, ‘79 and ‘80, while being named U.S. Wrestling Federation Grand Champion in 1978, and Athlete of the Year in 1978. He won an International World Cup gold medal in 1978 and a silver medal in 1979. Already inducted into the Pennsylvania Hall of Fame, Lieberman struck for gold in the 1978 Pan American Championships.
A former television analyst with ABC and CBS, Lieberman received the Lehigh Alumni Association's Undergraduate Merit Award in 1979 and has been a past member of the school's Alumni Association Board of Directors.
Lieberman went on to serve as President and Chief Operating Officer of Lieberman Appalucci Inc.
“What is most important (about the honor) is to be part of a very special group of Lehigh Champions,” Lieberman said. “These are people who have done well both in competition and in their subsequent careers. It is a real honor to be a part of this. There are a lot of other guys out there who deserve this as much as I do.”
