LEXINGTON, Ky. – Four members of the Lehigh track and field teams have qualified for the First Round of the NCAA Championships this weekend at the University of Kentucky. Sophomore Maura Henderson and freshman Hannah Patrick will be both be making their first appearance in the NCAA Regional meet, while senior Courtney Avery will make her fourth appearance in as many years, and senior Lucas Warning will compete for the second straight year.

All participants in Lexington this weekend rank as the top 48 of each event in the East Region. The top 12 placers in each event this weekend will qualify for the final round of the NCAA National Championships in Eugene, Oregon on June 7-10, where they will be joined by the top 12 placers from this weekend's West Region preliminary action in Austin, Texas.

Patrick will kick things off for Lehigh on Thursday afternoon's first day of competition in the javelin at 4 p.m. Patrick enters as the 46th seed after qualifying with her first place showing at the ECAC Championships (44.89m). She placed third at the Patriot League Championships (44.20m) and finished third at the Bison Outdoor Classic (44.44m).

Avery will look to qualify for a trip to Oregon for the second straight year in the high jump when she competes on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The reigning Second Team All-American captured her third straight outdoor league championship in the high jump on May 6 and also broke her own school record (1.82m) to win this year's Penn Relays High Jump Championship of America, becoming just the eighth female in Penn Relays history to win multiple championships in the event. Last year in the First Round she leapt a then-school record 1.80 meters to put herself in a first place tie, qualifying her for the finals. In her most recent performance at the ECAC Championships, Â Avery won the high jump by clearing at 1.77 meters, marking the second win of her career at the ECAC outdoor meet, and her sixth All-East honor overall (fourth outdoor). Avery enters the First Round as the highest-seeded Patriot League athlete (male or female) in any event at No. 9.

Later on Friday, Henderson will compete in the 3,000m steeplechase at 8:20 p.m. Henderson won two outdoor titles at this year's Patriot League Championships, including setting a new school and league record in the steeplechase (10:16.93). She also captured both the indoor and outdoor 5K PL titles this year, and is coming off a 10th place finish in the 1500m at the ECAC Championships. She enters the First Round with the 21st ranked time in the region.

On the men's side, Lucas Warning will represent Lehigh in the shot put at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and the discus at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Warning will be making his second straight appearance in the First Round after competing in the shot put last season, finishing 25th (17.46m). He captured his first career IC4AÂ title two weeks ago (18.11m) and won his second straight outdoor shot put title (third overall) by breaking his own school record at 18.98 meters. He also qualified for the First Round in the discus after finishing third in school record fashion (54.74m) at the PL Championships. Warning ranks 11th in the region in the shot put and 28th in the discus.
