Release: Lehigh closes out homestand with Mount St. Mary's Tuesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh women's basketball sophomore Kerry Kinek has been named Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. The Whitehall, Pa. native averaged 21.5 points and ten rebounds per game in the Mountain Hawks' two contests last week.

Kinek has recorded 20-plus points through the first three games of the season. She tossed in a career-high 23 points in Lehigh's overtime loss to 2013 NCAA Tournament competitor Villanova on Thursday, while recording 20 in Lehigh's win against NJIT.  She also grabbed 12 rebounds against NJIT to record her first double-double of the season. The sophomore shot 43.5% from the floor, 50% from three-point range and 88.9% from the charity stripe in last week's contests.

Lehigh beat NJIT for the eighth straight time to remain undefeated against the Highlanders and start the season 2-0 for the first time since the 1990-00 season. The Mountain Hawks played their fourth overtime contest against Villanova in the last six meetings between the schools, but fell 79-73.

This is the first Player of the Week award for Kinek, but she is certainly no stranger to Patriot League weekly honors. As a freshman, Kinek claimed six Rookie of the Week honors, including three straight.

Kinek and the Mountain Hawks will be back in action tomorrow at 7 p.m. in Stabler Arena when they welcome Mount St. Mary's. The game will air live on the Patriot League Network.
