BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior Chloe Hess has been named Patriot League Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday. Hess earned victories in all three appearances, allowing just two earned runs as part of a 4-1 weekend for the Mountain Hawks at the UMBC Round Robin in Baltimore.
This marks the second consecutive week a Lehigh pitcher won a Patriot League weekly award. First-year Madison Finnerty was named Rookie of the Week last Monday.
Hess allowed one run on three hits over five innings on Friday in Lehigh's 11-1, five-inning win over host UMBC. The following day, Hess came on in relief in the eighth inning and kept the go-ahead run from scoring to earn the victory as Lehigh defeated Canisius 6-5 in eight innings behind a game-winning single from senior Maddy Schmeiser.
In Sunday's tournament finale, Hess carried a shutout into the seventh inning, allowing one earned run on eight hits as the Mountain Hawks closed tournament action with a 4-2 victory over Canisius.
In 13 innings of work, Hess allowed just two earned runs while striking out 13 and walking just two.
For the season, Hess is 5-4 with a 3.67 ERA. She has struck out 43 over 61 innings of work.
Also on Monday, senior Rory Dudley picked up honorable mention recognition. Dudley hit safely in all five games in Baltimore, going 7-for-14 at the plate. She scored six runs, homered twice and drove in five runs for the Mountain Hawks. Dudley homered and drove in three of Lehigh's four runs in Sunday's win over Canisius.
The Mountain Hawks will open their home slate and Patriot League play this week. Lehigh welcomes Penn to Leadership Park for a single game Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. and then will host Army West Point for a three-game series with a doubleheader set for Saturday at noon and a single game scheduled for noon on Sunday.
