CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Eleven members of the Lehigh wrestling team ushered in 2020 at the two-day Southern Scuffle, which wrapped up Thursday evening at McKenzie Arena. True freshman Jake Logan, competing unattached at 174, led the way for the Mountain Hawks, going 4-3 to place eighth in his weight class.

Logan opened his tournament with a 5-3 win over Jared Siegrist of Lock Haven, then was dropped to the consolations with a loss by major decision to Neal Richards of VMI. On Wedesday night, Logan won his first two bouts, including a 3-2 decision over nationally-ranked Joe Grello of Rutgers to reach the round of 12. Thursday morning, Logan rallied for an 8-7 win over Lorenzo De La Riva of North Dakota State, breaking a 6-6 tie with a takedown with 38 seconds left in regulation.

A 6-1 loss to Daniel Bullard of NC State dropped Logan to the seventh place match, where he fell 6-5 to Thomas Flitz of Appalachian State.

The Lehigh contingent included seven veterans and four true freshmen, all of who competed unattached. Sophomore Jaret Lane was the only other Mountain Hawk to advance to the tournament's second day. Lane won four bouts on Wednesday but was eliminated by NC State's Kai Orine in the round of 12 at 133. Among Lane's four victories were a fall and two major decisions.

Eight of Lehigh's 11 entrants won at least one bout in the tournament. Sophomore Dan Moran rebounded from an opening round loss Wednesday to win three straight bouts at 141 before being eliminated in his final bout of the day. Unattached freshman Edmond Ruth won his first two bouts but dropped his next two on Wednesday to finish 2-2.
