
Lehigh set to host rival Lafayette Friday night, travel to Sacred Heart Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh field hockey team looks to bounce back from a tough stretch when it hosts rival Lafayette Friday evening. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a defeats at Bucknell and Lock Haven last weekend to fall to 5-7 overall, 1-3 in league play. Lehigh does have six regular-season contests remaining and multiple opportunities to get back on track. Friday's showdown against the Leopards is set for 7 p.m. on the Patriot League Network. The Mountain Hawks then travel to New Haven, Connecticut on Sunday to face Sacred Heart at 1 p.m. The game will be played at Yale University's Johnson Field and there will be no live video stream of the game.

Despite the Mountain Hawks' recent struggles, their 5-7 record is still their best mark after 12 games since 2009. Another bright spot, even through the recent defeats, has been Lehigh's offense. The Mountain Hawks have scored in all 12 games this season and 17 straight games dating back to last season – the program's longest streak since scoring in 24 straight games from 2006-07. The last time Lehigh was shut-out came last October 8 against Cornell.

Junior Drew Pecora helped prevent a shutout last time out at Lock Haven, scoring with 1:30 remaining to pull within 4-1 at the final horn. Pecora scored all three Mountain Hawk goals last weekend to up her season total to 11, still tops in the Patriot League, tied for 12th in the nation and two from tying the program record (13, held by Kim Eng in 2009). Pecora scored twice against Bucknell, marking just the third time in the last 12 meetings vs. the Bison that Lehigh scored multiple goals.

Lafayette stands tied for first place in the Patriot League with a 3-0 league mark and 8-5 overall record. The Leopards have won five in a row, most recently beating Temple, 1-0. Lafayette's league wins have come over Holy Cross (8-1), Colgate and Boston University (3-2 in overtime). Molly McAndrew leads Lafayette in goals (7) and points (16). Lisa van der Geest is right behind with 14 points behind four goals and a team-leading six assists. Two others own double-figure points: Felicitas Hannes with 12 points (five goals, two assists) and Sam Di Maio with 10 (five goals). Sarah Park has played every minute in goal, tallying a 1.42 goals against average and 71.8 save percentage.

The Leopards lead the all-time series, 40-13-3. Each of the last two meetings have gone to overtime, with Lehigh winning in 2017 at home and Lafayette winning last season in Easton. The 2017 victory was a 1-0 final to snap a 13-game losing streak in the series.

Sacred Heart enters a Friday night matchup vs. Bryant with a 2-11 overall record, 1-1 in the NEC. Last time out, the Pioneers picked up a 4-0 win over Merrimack. Three players are tied for the team lead in points with seven – Kayla Kruk (two goals, three assists), Bridget LaRiccia (three goals, one assist) and Colleen McAninley (three goals, one assist). Hailey Power has started 12-of-13 games in goal, tallying a 3.07 GAA and 77.2 save percentage.
