Redfern to be inducted into National Lacrosse Hall of Fame

SARKS, Md. - A former two-time first team All-American as a player, Lehigh head women's lacrosse coach Jill Redfern will be inducted into the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame this September, as announced by US Lacrosse on Tuesday. Redfern was a four-year standout at Ursinus College, who helped lead the Bears to the 1986 NCAA Division III National Championship. Redfern is one of nine individuals who will be inducted on September 23 at The Grand Valley Lodge in Hunt Valley, Md.
 
Along with Redfern, the other 2017 inductees are: Doug Knight, Leslie Blankin Lane, Jim McDonald, Laurette Payette, Casey Powell, Brooks Sweet, Robyn Nye Wood, and Don Zimmerman.
 
Along with the national title, Redfern led Ursinus to a national runner-up season in 1985 and was named the Most Outstanding Player in both the 1986 and 1987 NCAA Tournaments She was also a team captain and team MVP as a senior in 1988. Following her collegiate career, Redfern was a six-year member of the U.S. Women's National Team and caped off her international play as a member of the winning United States World Cup team in 1993 in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was also part of the U.S. Touring Team to Canada in 1990.
 
Redfern has enjoyed tremendous success as a coach as well, just finishing her ninth season as Lehigh head coach (10th overall season as a collegiate head coach) and owns a 98-70 career record. The Mountain Hawks have reached double-figure wins in five of her nine seasons, which includes a 25-11 mark over the past two years (34-19 over the past three). Redfern led Lehigh to two consecutive regular season titles in 2010 and 2011 and seven Patriot League Tournament appearances over her nine years.
 
Tickets for the 2017 National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, sponsored by RPS Bollinger and the Markel Insurance Company, will be available to the public for purchase beginning Aug. 1. Tickets will be sold online at uslacrosse.org/HOF.

The National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, a program of US Lacrosse, was established in 1957 to honor men and women who by their deeds as players, coaches, officials and/or contributors, and by the example of their lives, personify the great contribution of lacrosse to our way of life. Over 400 lacrosse greats are honored in the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame, which is located alongside the National Lacrosse Museum at the US Lacrosse Headquarters in Sparks, Maryland.
 
The Mountain Hawks finished the 2017 season 12-6, improving their record over the last two seasons to 25-11 mark, tied for the third most wins over a two-year stretch in school history. Lehigh featured three first team All-League honorees and finished third in the Patriot League standings with a 6-3 league mark, its best finish since 2011.
