Â
BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After strong seasons on the field, Lehigh field hockey senior Jackie Renda and freshman Lenke Havas have been named second team All-Patriot League honorees, as announced on Tuesday. Both Renda and Havas play key roles in the midfield and backfield, respectively, helping the Mountain Hawks' defense pitch three 1-0 shutouts on the season and allow one goal or fewer in six contests.
Â
Renda earned All-Patriot League recognition for a second straight season after also garnering second-team laurels as a junior. In 2017, played in 16 games (all starts) with three assists. All of Renda's assists came in victories - over Lafayette, Georgetown and at Colgate. She assisted on the overtime game-winner vs. Lafayette to give Lehigh its first win over the Leopards since 2005, and assisted on the game's only goal vs. Colgate. Renda also played an integral role in Lehigh's defensive efforts.
Â
Meanwhile, Havas stepped into the lineup from day one and immediately excelled. Serving as center back, she was a mainstay in the backfield while also posting a goal and two assists. She scored Lehigh's first goal of the season, in a 1-0 season-opening victory vs. LIU Brooklyn and she added assists at Bucknell and Lock Haven. In the end, Lehigh posted three shutouts, all 1-0 victories - the Mountain Hawks' most 1-0 wins since 2000. The Lehigh defense tallied three shutouts for a second straight season, the first time since 1999 and 2000 that Lehigh has posted three or more shutouts in consecutive years. Lehigh has recorded six shutouts through Caitlin Dallmeyer's first two years as Lehigh head coach after the Mountain Hawks had recorded six in the previous seven seasons combined. Prior to last season, Lehigh didn't have three shutouts in a season since 2004.
Â
The Mountain Hawks finished 2017 with a 5-13 record, 2-4 in Patriot League play. Lehigh tied Lafayette for fifth place, but finished ahead of the Leopards due to tiebreaker, the first time Lehigh finished ahead of Lafayette since 2007. The Mountain Hawks earned shutout victories over LIU Brooklyn (1-0), Lafayette (1-0) and Colgate (1-0) while also defeating Siena (4-1) and Georgetown (3-2). Lehigh had five Patriot League weekly awards on the season, the program's most since 2011 and the first time in program history it has won each of the four awards at least once (Offensive Player, Defensive Player, Goalkeeper and Rookie).
