Bleming and Washington earn Patriot League weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball sophomores James Bleming and Mark Washington won the final Patriot League Player and Pitcher of the Week awards of the season, as announced by the league on Monday afternoon. The two Mountain Hawks helped Lehigh to a 3-0 week as the team wrapped up the regular season having won 10 of its final 11 games.
Bleming garners his first career Patriot League Player of the Week award after hitting .500 (6-for-12) with three doubles, five RBI and two runs scored as Lehigh captured wins over Saint Peter's and Immaculata. The Royersford, Pa. native went 5-for-9 with three doubles and five RBI as Lehigh picked up 8-2 and 11-2 wins over Immaculata. The big week helped Bleming raise his season-long batting average to .311. It marks the fourth time this season a Lehigh player has been named the Patriot League Player of the Week (Patrick Donnelly 4/25, Mike Garzillo 4/4, Jacen Nalesnik 3/21).
Washington picks up the first Patriot League Pitcher of the Week award of his career after hurling his first career complete game Thursday in Lehigh's 2-1 win at Saint Peter's. The sophomore earned the win after allowing just one run on seven hits and three strikeouts in his full nine-inning outing. The victory helped Washington move to 5-1 on the season and he leads the Lehigh pitching staff with a stingy 2.06 ERA.
Bleming, Washington and the Mountain Hawks will head to Holy Cross this weekend for the Patriot League Semifinals. A 1 p.m. doubleheader will be played Saturday, with Sunday's if necessary game also slated for a 1 p.m. start. Free video of the semifinal series will be available on the Patriot League Network.
