
Mountain Hawks hand out end-of-season team awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team recently took time to reflect on the 2016 season and hand out its team awards at the Mountain Hawks' annual awards banquet.
Sophomore Jack Petersen earned the team's Outstanding Athlete Award, given to the player who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. Petersen put together a strong sophomore campaign in which he earned second team All-Patriot League laurels. He led the team with 17 singles victories, finishing 17-3 overall and 7-1 in league play playing primarily at the second flight. Petersen went 11-7 overall in doubles action, including a 5-2 mark against league foes.
Freshman George Cooper was awarded the Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, which is given to the player who exemplifies the idea of scholar-athlete in the eyes of his or her teammates. A Computer Science and Business major, Cooper holds an impressive 3.93 grade point average. Cooper held down a starting spot in the Lehigh lineup during his first season in the Brown and White, going 11-6 overall in singles action and 6-1 in Patriot League play. He compiled a 13-4 overall doubles record and 5-2 mark against league foes.
The Coaches Award, given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership, was awarded to senior Jeremy Kochman. A co-captain on this year's squad, Kochman earned first team All-League laurels after playing exclusively at the top flight of singles and doubles. He went 10-8 overall at the top flight of singles, while tallying an 11-7 doubles record.
The Mountain Hawks made their seventh semifinal appearance in the last eight years and Lehigh finished its strong season at 15-6 overall and 5-3 in Patriot League play.
