Women’s Track Captures Four Wins at Lehigh Games

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh's women's track and field team captured four wins on Saturday at the Lehigh Games, held at the Goodman Track. Junior Ashley Strysko (18.25.63) won her second 5K of the season, edging out fourth place Jennifer Burke (18:57.64). Lehigh grabbed three wins in the field as well, with Courtney Avery (1.75m) capturing her second high jump crown in as many days, after winning yesterday's Penn Relays High Jump Championship of America. Senior Gabrielle Wardle, who also competed in this week's Penn Relays, returned home to take the top spot in the long jump (5.39m). Nia Baker (12.51m) tied her PR with a win in the shot put, helping Lehigh sweep the top two spots along with Amanda Youngblood, who finished runner-up.

Leah Ferguson (3rd/12.74m) and freshman Alexa Alhout (6th/13.20) finished in the top six out of 25 finishers in the 100 meter dash.

In the 200 dash, sophomore Liyala Dickens (25.79) led the way for Lehigh in fourth place, followed by Ferguson (25.98) in fifth place, with junior Kaitlyn Ruffing (26.59) following in seventh place in the field of 39 runners. Ruffing also had a solid performance in the 400 meter dash, finishing fourth with a season-best time of 58.75 seconds. Lindsay Voltz followed behind Ruffing in ninth place, setting a new PR of her own in 59.86.

Lehigh turned in a strong showing in the 800 meter run, taking five of the top eight spots with Marissa Karl (2:14.51) finishing second, followed by Hanna Brosky (2:16.04) in third, and Laura Barnes (2:16.75), Stephanie Hayes (2:16.79) and Hannah Leskow (2:17.37) finishing sixth through eighth, respectively.

Senior Elizabeth Weiler (4:41.79) raced her way to a runner-up placement in the 1500m, with classmate Ann O'Connell (4:43.19) also landing on the podium in third. Senior Arielle Weiner set a new PR in the event at 5:01.87, crossing the line in 18th place.

Katie Hatler (14.62) tallied a runner-up showing in the 100m hurdles, three spots ahead of Wardle (15.14). Noreen Byrne kept the top performances going in the 400 hurdles, also taking runner-up in 1:03.81, narrowly missing a new PR.

The Brown and White also earned a second place finish from the 4x100 relay squad (48.36 seconds).

In the field events, Brittany Le Jouan (1.63m) finished tied for second in the high jump. Freshman Kaitlyn Toman (3.34m) finished second in the pole vault, with Tyler Banister setting a new season-high of 3.19m in fifth place. In the long jump, Courtney Wu, Kiana Wright and Sarah Cassidy took fifth through seventh, respectively. Wu later led the team in third place of the triple jump (10.59m) and Cassidy rounded out the top five of the shot put (12.12m).

Youngblood registered a second place showing in the discus (41.74m), and Meghan Reilly notched a second place toss in the javelin (37.18m). Paige Grossman led the team in the hammer throw, while setting a new PR of 45.72 meters.

Lehigh will now focus its preparation on the Patriot League Championships, which will take place on Friday-Saturday, May 8-9 at Bucknell.
