BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For their outstanding work in the classroom and on the field, Lehigh men's lacrosse seniors Casey Eidenshink and Billy Oppenheimer have named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, as announced on Wednesday. This marks the fourth time in six years that the Mountain Hawks have featured multiple Academic All-League honorees.
Â
Eidenshink was named to the Academic All-League Team for the second straight season, becoming Lehigh's first player named to the team on multiple occasions since Ty Souders earned the honor in 2012, 2013 and 2014. After earning second team All-Patriot League on Monday, Oppenheimer became one of just six players named both All-League and Academic All-League.
Â
A Wyncote, Pennsylvania native, Eidenshink was named a candidate for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award in February. He currently owns a strong 3.33 GPA as a Finance major and has been named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll on multiple occasions, also garnering the Faculty Athletics Council Award for a semester GPA over 3.2. He has been a member of Lehigh Lacrosse's Academic Council, an internal initiative within the team to help foster success in the classroom. The council's responsibilities include: helping teammates with course selection, class schedules, time management, study skills and overall team academic progress. Eidenshink has garnered some impressive work experience within his major as well, including interning as Lincoln Investment Planning. Eidenshink worked in the investment management and research department, working directly with managing directors while leading projects and assignments.
Â
On the field, Eidenshink was one of three senior captains and a leader of the Lehigh defense. A second team All-Patriot League honoree as a junior, he finished 2016 with 32 groundballs and nine caused turnovers, along with an assist. Eidenshink had five groundballs and two caused turnovers at No. 3 Duke and tallied four groundballs in consecutive games - vs. Colgate and at Army West Point. He finished the season, and his career, by recording multiple groundballs in five of his last six games. He wrapped up his career with 115 groundballs and 49 caused turnovers.
Â
Meanwhile, Oppenheimer owns an impressive 3.43 GPA as an English major, garnering several academic awards in his time at Lehigh. The Conshohocken, Pennsylvania native was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll on multiple occasions and has been named to the Dean's List for a semester GPA over 3.6. He has garnered the Faculty Athletics Council Award as well.
Â
Oppenheimer enjoyed a career season in 2016, recording career highs in goals (14), assists (13) and points (27) to earn All-League honors for the first time. He finished tied for fourth on the team in points, third in assists and fifth in goals. Oppenheimer recorded multiple points in each of the first seven games this season. He had a career-high five points vs. Colgate (two goals, three assists) while tallying his first-career hat trick with three goals and an assist at Lafayette. Oppenheimer recorded three points (one goal, two assists) against Loyola, and also had that stat line at No. 3 Duke earlier in February.
Â
The Mountain Hawks finished the 2016 season with a 6-9 record and 4-4 mark in the Patriot League, earning the No. 5 seed and advancing to the program's sixth straight Patriot League Tournament appearance. The season saw three seniors earn All-League honors, while the senior class set the table for an impressive core of youngsters. Among the underclass standouts were freshman long-stick midfielder Craig Chick, who currently leads the nation with 37 caused turnovers, and freshman attackman Tristan Rai, who finished the year second on the Mountain Hawks in goals (31) and points (41).
