BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's soccer senior Jamie Luchini has signed a professional contract with Bethlehem Steel FC of the United Soccer League. The Bethlehem Steel FC, an affiliate of MLS team Philadelphia Union, will play its inaugural season in Lehigh's Goodman Stadium.

"It was a relief to finally sign my first professional contract," said Luchini. "While I was disappointed at the time to not get selected in the MLS Superdraft, it all ended up working in the end as I am able to sign and play for a USL team filled with quality players that can be put right into the Philadelphia Union roster. Additionally, I am able to finish my degree this semester which is something I valued since day one."

"I'm very proud of Jamie and excited about this next step in his career as a professional soccer player," said Lehigh head coach Dean Koski. "He has worked very hard for the past four years at Lehigh for this opportunity and I know he'll be a great addition to Bethlehem Steel's roster."

Luchini wrapped up his career in the Brown and White by leading the Mountain Hawks to their second-ever Patriot League Championship in 2015. He was named first team All-Region by the NSCAA after finishing his senior season with a league-best 29 points behind ten goals and nine assists. The Wexford, Pa. native is also a two-time All-Patriot League representative, three-time Academic All-League member, CoSIDA Academic All-American and NSCAA Scholar All-American. He earned Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after securing eight points thanks three goals and two assists in Lehigh's three PLT games as he helped lead the Mountain Hawks to the league crown and NCAA Tournament appearance. Luchini finished his Lehigh career with 53 points thanks to 18 goals and 17 assists.

Luchini joins a long list of former Mountain Hawks who have signed professional contracts, the most recent being Ciaran Nugent '14 who currently resides with the Sligo Rovers of the Irish Premier League.

The Bethlehem Steel FC opened their season on March 25 and made their home debut in Goodman Stadium on April 3. The season runs from late March to late September.
