Kempton honored with Patriot League Player of the Week laurels

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - For the second time in three weeks, Lehigh men's basketball junior Tim Kempton has been named Patriot League Player of the Week, as announced on Monday. The announcement comes just hours after Kempton repeated as Patriot League Player of the Year. Kempton finished the regular season with two more double-doubles this past week, averaging 19.5 points and 15.0 rebounds in road wins at Colgate and Army West Point.

Kempton was previously named Player of the Week for the first time this season (and second time in his career) on Feb. 15. Since, he has continued his strong play, racking up six double-doubles over his final seven games of the regular season. He began last week with 16 points and 12 rebounds at Colgate Wednesday, shooting 6-of-8 from the field, as the win clinched Lehigh a top two seed in the Patriot League Tournament.

Kempton continued with 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds at Army West Point Saturday, posting 12 points and 14 rebounds in the second half alone. He converted 11-of-21 field goals to finish the week 17-of-29 (58.6 percent). Kempton's 18 rebounds were the most by any Lehigh player in Brett Reed's tenure as head coach. It was also tied for the second most boards by any Patriot League player this season.

For the season, Kempton is averaging 17.5 points and 9.3 rebounds, including averages of 17.8 and 9.7 in league games. He now owns 11 double-doubles this season and 31 in his career. Earlier on Monday, he was named Patriot League Player of the Year for a second straight season and was a unanimous choice for first team All-League.

Lehigh will enter the upcoming Patriot League Tournament as the No. 2 seed. Following a first-round bye, the Mountain Hawks will host the winner of Tuesday's first-round matchup between No. 10 Lafayette and No. 7 Navy in the quarterfinals on Thursday (Mar. 3) at 7 p.m. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased, here.
