
Leufroy earns third Patriot League Rookie of the Week award

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following two more strong efforts, Lehigh men's basketball freshman Kyle Leufroy has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Leufroy scored 23 points vs. Bucknell then 13 at Holy Cross for his fourth and fifth straight double-figure scoring games. The Mountain Hawks went 1-1 on the week with a tight 82-76 defeat against Bucknell before earning an impressive 87-66 victory at Holy Cross.

With his latest award, Leufroy becomes the seventh Mountain Hawk in the last 10 seasons to win Rookie of the Week laurels at least three times in his freshman campaign. The others were: Marquis Hall (9 in 2006-07), Rob Keefer (6 in 2007-08), C.J. McCollum (9 in 2009-10), Mackey McKnight (3 in 2010-11), Tim Kempton (4 in 2013-14) and Kahron Ross (5 in 2014-15).

Leufroy finished the week with 36 points, 13 rebounds and four assists. He began with a career-high 23 points against Bucknell Monday, shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. He added four rebounds and a career-high four steals.

The Pasadena, California native went on to score 13 points at Holy Cross Saturday, 11 coming in the second half to help the Mountain Hawks erase any doubt and turn their nine-point halftime lead into a 21-point victory. Leufroy added a career-high nine rebounds as well, just missing a double-double, while shooting 5-of-8 from the field Saturday and 13-of-23 for the week (57 percent).

On the season, Leufroy is averaging 10.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per game, which stands third on the team in both categories.

Junior Tim Kempton also garnered honorable mention recognition on Monday after scoring 49 points last week. He scored a career-high 29 points against Bucknell before scoring 20 at Holy Cross. Kempton knocked down 17-of-22 field goals over the two games, and 15-of-18 free throws.

The Mountain Hawks will now return home on Wednesday to host Navy at 7 p.m.
