Garzillo and Nalesnik earn Academic All-League honors

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball junior Mike Garzillo and sophomore Jacen Nalesnik have both earned spots on the Academic All-Patriot League team, as announced by the league on Wednesday morning. The two Mountain Hawks represent Lehigh on the 13-player team that recognizes strength in the classroom and on the field.
Garzillo has tallied a 3.27 grade point average as a management major and he earns his second-straight Academic All-League honor. The second baseman was a unanimous selection for first team All-League laurels after finishing the regular season hitting a team-best .367 and leading the Patriot League in slugging percentage (.615), RBI (43) and home runs (8). In addition to his work in the classroom and on the field, Garzillo is a member of Lehigh's Student Athlete Mentors program.
Nalesnik holds a 3.31 GPA in Lehigh's College of Arts and Sciences. Lehigh's starting right fielder finished the regular season hitting .323 overall and is tied for second on the team with 28 RBI. Nalesnik leads Lehigh with 14 two-out RBI and seven sacrifice bunts. He earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor roll a season ago and grabs his first Academic All-League honor.
The Patriot League baseball academic awards are voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his sport. Freshmen are not eligible for the award.
Garzillo, Nalesnik and the Mountain Hawks return to action this weekend when Lehigh hosts Holy Cross in the Patriot League Semifinals at Legacy Park. The best-of-three series begins with a 12 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
