BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a strong regular season, four Lehigh women's lacrosse players have been named All-Patriot League honorees. Senior Lauren Willcox and junior Kendall Garden earned a spot on the first team while senior Kelly Scott and sophomore Allison LaBeau were named to the second team. Garden and LaBeau garnered All-League for a second straight season while Willcox was named All-Patriot League for a third consecutive year.
Â
Willcox was named to the second team as a sophomore and now first team each of the last two seasons. The Chester Springs, Pa. native has tallied 18 groundballs and 25 caused turnovers in 2015 as an anchor on defense. She's second on the team and third in the league with caused turnovers. Willcox has been consistently assigned the opponent's top scorer and has come through. This past Friday, she shut down Holy Cross' Laura Ryan, who entered the game with 44 points and had just one against Willcox and the Mountain Hawks. Willcox has tallied multiple caused turnovers on eight different occasions, including a career-high five against Fairfield which earned her Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week honors. She also tallied two groundballs and three caused turnovers last time out at Holy Cross. As a team, the Mountain Hawks are third in the league in goals against average, allowing just 8.06 per contest.
Â
Garden earned first team honors for the first time after being named to the second team last season. Garden stands third on the team with 33 points (24 goals, nine assists), leads the way in caused turnovers (31) and is tied for the lead in groundballs (29). The 31 caused turnovers also lead the Patriot League. The two-way midfielder has 12 multi-point games this season and has recorded multiple caused turnovers on 10 separate occasions. Early in the season against UC Davis, Garden tallied a goal, assist, three groundballs and four caused turnovers in the bitter cold as the Mountain Hawks posted their first win of the season. Garden's 22 draw controls are second on the team as five came in Lehigh's game at Jacksonville. She was named Patriot League Midfield Player of the Week in late March after three stellar games, all wins, at Bucknell, Mount St. Mary's and Bryant.
Â
Last season's Patriot League Rookie of the Year, LaBeau was named an All-League honoree for a second straight season. The Mountain Lakes, N.J. native leads the team and stands sixth in the Patriot League with 48 points this season behind 34 goals and 14 assists. She also has 17 groundballs, 11 caused turnovers and 14 draw controls. LaBeau has six hat tricks this year highlighted by 11 goals over a two-game stretch at Mount St. Mary's and Bryant. After six goals against the Mountaineers, she scored five at Bryant, including the game-winning goal with 4.5 seconds remaining. That helped earn LaBeau Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week honors. She enters the Patriot League Tournament with double-figure points in seven of the last eight games.
Â
Scott earns All-Patriot League honors for the first time in her career. A two-time team captain, Scott has started from day one and impressed. She currently has 18 groundballs and 17 caused turnovers (third on the team) this season to reach 82 and 51 for her career. Scott's impact has gone far beyond any statistics as an anchor of one of the league's top defenses. She has posted multiple caused turnovers five times, including four straight games earlier this season. Included were two groundballs and three caused turnover in a win against Niagara and four groundballs and two caused turnovers as the Mountain Hawks allowed just five goals vs. Fairfield. Lehigh has allowed single-digit goals in 12 of 16 games this season, including the last eight contests. The Mountain Hawks have allowed just 7.25 goals per game in that eight-game span, as Lehigh has gone 6-2 to improve to 9-7 overall.
Â
In the Patriot League Tournament for a second straight season, the fifth-seeded Mountain Hawks will play at Boston University in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The game will be streamed live, for free, on the Patriot League Network.
