Mountain Hawks reflect on season at annual banquet

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's basketball team held its annual Charles F. '38 and Marie Zell Basketball Banquet Saturday evening in the Tower Room on Lehigh's Mountaintop Campus. The dinner included remarks from the senior class, an awards ceremony and highlight video as the Mountain Hawks took time to reflect on the past season.
Senior Katie O'Reilly earned the team's Outstanding Athlete Award, given to the player who makes the most outstanding athletic contribution to the accomplishments of the team. O'Reilly was named second team All-Patriot League after wrapping up her senior season averaging 11.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. She scored in double figures 16 times this season, including 11 of Lehigh's 18 regular-season Patriot League games. O'Reilly finished league play with averages of 12.7 points and 4.6 boards per game to go along with a squad-high 43 steals and a team-best 41 assists during Patriot League action. The Colts Neck, N.J. native became Lehigh's 17th 1,000 point scorer on Feb. 14 against Holy Cross. She finished her career with 1,067 points to finish 15th on Lehigh's all-time scoring list.
Senior Sarah Williams was awarded the Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award, which is given to the player who exemplifies the idea of scholar-athlete in the eyes of his or her teammates. A double major in international relations and political science, Williams has tallied an impressive 3.58 grade point average throughout her time at Lehigh. Williams was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament team after scoring in double-figures in all three of Lehigh's postseason games. She finished the season averaging 7.4 points per game and led the team with 68 assists.
The Coaches Award, given to the individual who made significant contributions to the well-being of the team in terms of attitude, improvement or special leadership, was awarded to junior Elizabeth Sharlow. Sharlow was a key player for the Mountain Hawks this season, averaging 5.9 points and 3.7 rebounds per game, but was also a key leader for the Lehigh squad.
The sixth man award, given to an individual or group of people who have made a major impact on the program, was presented to Julie Ammary. Ammary is the program director of leadership education within the Lehigh Athletics Department.
The Mountain Hawks finished the season with a 19-11 overall record and made their first Patriot League Championship game appearance since 2010. Lehigh concluded league play with a 9-9 record to earn the six seed in the Patriot League Tournament and picked up road wins at No. 3 Holy Cross and No. 2 Army to earn the championship berth.
