BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh field hockey team held its annual banquet on Sunday in the University Center, looking back to the 2015 season. Seniors reflected on their careers while team awards were handed out.
Â
Athlete of the Year was presented to freshman Teresa Carotenuto, who led the Mountain Hawks in scoring with 11 goals and 22 points. Carotenuto tallied four multi-goal games in 2015, winning Patriot League Rookie of the Week twice and Offensive Player of the Week once. Two games after her first-career multi-goal game at Bucknell on Sept. 26, Carotenuto broke out with a career-high four goals in Lehigh's 4-0 shutout of Siena. The four goals were just one shy of tying the Patriot League all-time record for most goals in a game while the hat trick was Lehigh's first since 2012. The four goals were also the most by a Patriot League player since 2010 and are tied for the fourth most by any player in the nation this season.
Â
The Scholar-Athlete Award went to senior Erin Ricker, who owns a 3.51 cumulative GPA as an Industrial and Systems Engineering major. A member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll every year, Ricker has earned a spot on the Dean's List (for a semester GPA over 3.6) on multiple occasions. On the field, Ricker played in all 18 games with 16 starts, scoring a goal against Lock Haven. She also tallied a defensive save at Bucknell.
Â
Presented to the student-athlete who made notable contributions to the well-being of the team in the areas of attitude, improvement and leadership, the Coaches Award went to senior Zoey Pacheco. Pacheco played in all 18 games with 11 starts as a catalyst in the midfield. She posted one assist on the season, but as a team co-captain, her impact went far beyond on-field statistics. Pacheco played in 69 of 70 possible games over her collegiate career.
Â
The Mountain Hawks wrapped up their season 5-13 and 2-4 in league play, which included strong efforts against top teams. Lehigh closed out the year with road Patriot League wins at Colgate and Holy Cross, while its four league losses came by a total of seven goals. The Mountain Hawks took American to overtime while holding nationally-ranked Boston University to three goals, tying for the Terriers' lowest offensive output in a Patriot League game all season. Â
