BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Continuing his strong play, Lehigh freshman Kyle Leufroy has been named Patriot League Rookie of the Week, as announced on Monday. Leufroy averaged 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds over a pair of games, shooting 56 percent from the field.
Â
The award marks Lehigh's first weekly honor of the season. Leufroy becomes the Mountain Hawks' first Rookie of the Week since Kahron Ross, who won the award five times last year. Brandon Alston was also named Rookie of the Week once in 2014-15.
Â
Leufroy began the week with eight points, two rebounds, a block and steal at Saint Francis (Pa.) last Wednesday. He followed with a career-high 17 points against Rochester College Saturday. The point total was a game-high for either side, shooting 7-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range. He added six rebounds to tie a season high.
Â
Leufroy is averaging 11.5 points over his last four games and 8.1 points for the season (fifth on the team). He's also averaging 3.6 rebounds on the season, from the guard position.
Â
Junior Tim Kempton also earned honorable mention recognition on the Patriot League weekly honor roll, averaging 17.0 points and 11.5 rebounds over the two games last week. He tallied 16 points and 14 rebounds on Saturday, in the process, becoming the 33rd player in school history and 105th in Patriot League history to reach 1,000 career points.
Â
Following their first win of the season Saturday, the Mountain Hawks will now enjoy a 12-day break of games for final exams before returning to action on Thursday, Dec. 17 at Robert Morris. Opening tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
