Women's Cross Country Concludes Season at NCAA Regionals

PRINCETON, N.J. - The Lehigh women's cross country team concluded its season with a 21st place finish on Friday afternoon at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals. Thirty teams and exactly 200 runners competed at the 6K meet, held on the Princeton University campus. Penn State captured the team championship, while defending champ Georgetown came in second to earn automatic bids to the NCAA National Championships.

For the second straight race, junior Amanda Ruschel led the Mountain Hawks' pack with a 101st place time of 23:19.1. Sophomore Laura Barnes was the second Lehigh runner to cross the line, finishing in 117th place (23:29.4). Freshman Ashleigh Thurston (23:45.4) and senior Arielle Weiner (23:49.8) followed, finishing in 129th and 132nd place, respectively.

Next was graduate student Shannon Wright, who concluded her collegiate cross country career with a 147th place time of 24:13.0. Junior Marissa Karl followed closely behind in 150th place, completing the course in 24:17.9, and freshman Stacie Nadel (24:25.8) rounded out the field of Lehigh runners in 155th place.

Patriot League champion Bucknell led the league on Friday with an eighth place finish, two spots ahead of Navy. Lehigh was the third highest placing Patriot League school, coming in five spots ahead of Lafayette.

Many of Lehigh's cross country student athletes will now get set to begin the indoor track season, which is scheduled to kick off on Dec. 4 at Rauch Fieldhouse with the Lehigh Fast Times meet.
