Men's Cross Country Competes at Pair of Saturday Meets

PRINCETON, N.J. – The Lehigh men's cross country team competed at two different venues on Saturday in the team's final warmup before the Patriot League Championships in two weeks. The Mountain Hawks finished eighth out of 21 teams at the annual Princeton Invitational. Lehigh finished second out of the three Patriot League teams at the meet, one spot and 19 points behind Bucknell, and 12 places ahead of Loyola (Md.). On average, the 10 Lehigh runners finished the 8K course in 25:04.
Sophomore Patrick Reilly was Lehigh's top finisher for the third time this season, finishing 15th overall and was the highest placing Patriot League runner. His time of 24:31.1 was also a new personal best. He was followed by senior Evan Ward in 47th place, who also set a new personal best time of 25:03.7 for the second meet in a row. Fellow senior Evan Hardy placed third on the team, 56th overall, by finishing the race in 25:10.7.
Ryan Cooney and Kyle Kirk finished back-to-back in 67th and 68th place, respectively, while Joseph Inglis (25:27.8) finished 84th and Nicholas Hirdt (25:29.9) crossed the line in 85th place overall to round out the Mountain Hawks top seven.
Closer to home, Lehigh also sent eight runners to compete at the Leopard Cross Country Invitational, hosted by Lafayette College. Freshman Mitchell Daddario (26th/26:40.5), junior Kyle Leonard (41st/27:10.8) and sophomore Ryan Grace (47th/27:25.3) paced Lehigh in the event. Freshmen Samuel Layding and Brian Arita followed by coming in 56th and 57th, respectively. Sophomores Christopher Mascetti and Henry Paul rounded out Lehigh's top seven with Mascetti placing 59th and Paul coming in 64th.
Up next, in two weeks Lehigh will join its fellow league schools at the Patriot League Championships on the campus of Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. The men's race on October 31 is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
