McKay and Garzillo named to Academic All-League Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh baseball junior Tim McKay and sophomore Mike Garzillo earned spots on the Academic All-Patriot League team, as announced by the league on Wednesday. The two Mountain Hawks represent Lehigh on the 12-player team that recognizes strength in the classroom and on the field.
The Patriot League baseball academic awards are voted on by the league's sports information directors. To be eligible for this honor, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Both McKay and Garzillo earn the award for the first time.
An accounting major, McKay has tallied an impressive 3.44 GPA throughout his time at Lehigh. He earned second team All-Patriot League recognition following his successful season as Lehigh's starting catcher. The junior hit .301 through the regular season with 14 runs scored, 12 RBI and six extra-base hits. In addition to his work on the field and in the classroom, McKay is also involved in Lehigh's Student Athlete Mentors program.
Garzillo has notched a 3.22 GPA as a business major. The sophomore second baseman was named first team All-Patriot League after a strong regular season in which he led the Mountain Hawks in multiple offensive categories. Garzillo tallied a team-best 14 multiple hit games and ten multiple RBI games this season in addition to leading the squad in RBI (30), hits (51), doubles (11), triples (3), walks (20) and slugging percentage (.425).
McKay, Garzillo and the Mountain Hawks return to action this weekend when Lehigh heads to Army for the Patriot League Semifinals. The best-of-three series begins with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. Saturday.
