
Souders named to USILA Scholar All-America Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh men's lacrosse senior Ty Souders has been named a Scholar All-American, as recently announced by the USILA. All honorees were nominated by his coach and must be in senior academic standing with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher. All Scholar All-Americans are standouts on the field - either an All-American, member of the North-South team and/or an outstanding league or conference player. Souders has garnered several awards and honors in his decorated career, including being named a finalist for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award and being named to the south team for the North-South Game.

Last season, both Brian Hess and Ryan Snyder were named Scholar All-Americans. In 2012, Cameron and Roman Lao-Gosney were recognized. Seven Mountain Hawks have been recognized over the past five seasons, along with Jonathan Stumpf in 2011 and Evan Guerrero in 2010. The USILA Scholar All-America team includes student-athletes from Division I, II and III.

A local product out of Emmaus High School, Souders is a two-time All-American, and has a chance to be named an All-American this season. Souders is a three-time All-Patriot League honoree and three-time member of the Academic All-Patriot League Team, owning a strong GPA over 3.5.

The Finance major had a career-high 44 groundballs this season to go with 14 caused turnovers as the quarterback of the nation's third-ranked defense. He finished his career with 139 groundballs and 56 caused turnovers, starting every game since stepping foot on campus as a freshman.

Souders has made his impact in all areas, earning a spot on the Dean's List several semesters and has been on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll while garnering the Faculty Athletics Council Award as well.

The team's lone captain in 2014, Souders is in the running for the Senior CLASS Award which will be announced this coming weekend. As of the final day of fan voting, Souders was narrowly leading Villanova's John LoCascio. The fan vote accounts for one third of the voting, along with coach and media votes.

Souders will play in the USILA North-South Senior All-Star Game on Monday at 10 a.m. at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium. He will wear number 31 for the south.
