
Taylor and Telesco earn Patriot League weekly awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh junior Dan Taylor and sophomore Tripp Telesco each garnered Patriot League weekly honors on Monday as Taylor was named Offensive Player of the Week and Telesco received Defensive Player of the Week laurels for their efforts in Saturday's 11-7 win over #16/19 Colgate. Taylor posted four points behind two goals and two assists while Telesco had four groundballs and three caused turnovers, all while shutting down Colgate's leading scorer Ryan Walsh. It marked the second awards this season for both Taylor (Mar. 17) and Telesco (Feb. 17).
Taylor finished with a game-high four points, all coming in Lehigh's 6-1 run from the end of the second through the beginning of the fourth quarters. Taylor began the run with two goals, breaking a 4-4 tie at 1:23 of the second quarter before making it 6-4 at 12:35 of the third. He also dished two assists to make it 8-5 then 10-5. Saturday marked Taylor's fifth straight multi-point game, seventh multi-goal game of the season and 21st of his career. For the season, Taylor leads the team with 39 points behind 23 goals and 16 assists.
Telesco shut down Walsh, holding him to only three shots (and just one on goal). After owning a 42-game point streak, Walsh was held pointless for a second straight week. Telesco's four groundballs and three caused turnovers increased his season total to 35 and 28, respectively. The Mountain Hawks as a defense held Colgate to just 21 shots all game, including just two in the third quarter. Lehigh outscored the Raiders 4-1 in that frame to take control of the game. The defense held Colgate scoreless for one stretch of 14:39 between the third and fourth quarters while allowing just one goal in a stretch of 21:09 between late in the second and beginning of the fourth quarters. Lehigh outscored Colgate 6-1 in that span to turn a 4-4 tie into a 10-5 lead.
The Mountain Hawks moved back into the national rankings on Monday, coming in 19th (tied) in the media poll and 20th in the coaches poll. Lehigh will now head to Princeton on Tuesday for a nonleague clash with the #15/17 Tigers. Opening faceoff is set for 7:30 p.m. live on ESPNU/WatchESPN.
